Art 3: Biblical Interpretation

Art 3 students were challenged to choose a verse, story, or parable from the Bible and represent it, using the medium of their choice, without using words.

Art 2: Stained Glass

In the Middle Ages, stained glass windows in Gothic churches served a more meaningful purpose than just being beautiful. The windows were used to teach Christian beliefs to many who could not read the Bible. Through the years, stained glass changed and eventually declined until the 1800s.

After reading about the history of stained glass and researching different types of stained glass, as well as famous stained glass artists like Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) and John La Farge (1835-1910), Art 2 students planned, designed, and created a custom faux stained glass piece using Liquid Leading and Gallery Glass Window Color. Students' carefully crafted faux stained glass in combination with God's beautiful sunlight is something to marvel.

Former Art 3 Student Makes the News

Last school year Brittany Gonce (OCS ’13) spent months creating a huge painting of Russell Westbrook for an Art 3 project. She used a technique inspired by Chuck Close, a famous artist who paints on a grid and uses layers of shapes and colors to create large portraits. After graduating from OCS, Brittany has continued to use her artistic gift to create. One of her most recent creations was another large portrait painting. This time she painted Thunder player and NBA MVP Kevin Durant. Last night, Brittany and friend Semaja Parker (OCS ’13) took the portraits of Westbrook and Durant to the airport and greeted the Thunder players as they arrived home from San Antonio. Deservingly so, Brittany’s artwork caught the attention of both the local news and the Thunder players!

Art 1- Self Portraits

Art 1- After studying Proportion, one of the principles of art, students drew a self portrait. Students' photographs were printed as a 5 x 7 print. Their paper was cut to 10 x 14. Students used 1" and 2" grids to transfer what they saw in their small photograph to larger drawing paper. Students did a great job of taking their time and drawing what they saw in their original photograph, square by square!

Art 1: Relief Prints

Art 1- Printmaking

Students used foam blocks to create relief prints. Students also learned the difficult technique of two color prints. This was a fun project and students enjoyed learning the process of printmaking.
