Art 1: Tessellations

Tessellation- the process of creating a two-dimensional plane using the repetition of a geometric shape with no overlaps and no gaps.

Last semester, Art 1 students worked on tessellations for their independent study project. If students finished an assignment or project early, they would work on these. They turned out great!

Westwood Mini-mester

Once again, OCS was blessed with the opportunity to work with the beautiful children and staff who make up Westwood Elementary School. For my mini-mester, Art for the Heart, a group of junior and senior girls prepared and taught art lessons to the whole second grade! The girls were broken into groups of 5-6. While one group taught, the other girls worked 1 on 1 with students, helping them complete their art projects. Our goal was to give and to love the kids at Westwood- but we all left feeling like they had given so much more to us. They are precious and we were blessed to have the opportunity to work with them again.

Stained Glass

Art 2 students researched the history of stained glass windows and then created their own rendition of the art form using only paper! Students used exacto knives to make each cut!

Foreshortening

After learning about foreshortening, Art 1 students were given a lot of freedom for their project. All that was required was that students incorporated foreshortening!

WE LOVE COLOR...and icing!!

We kicked off our chapter on color with cookies and icing. Students were only given red, blue, and yellow icing. With those three primary colors, they created an entire color wheel out of cookies and icing!! We had a lot of fun eating our completed wheels too!
